Local Elections 2003
Partial local elections, June 22 / July 6
On 22 June 2003, the repeat voting took place in a number of localities. In Ialoveni district the repeat voting was held in three localities. In villages Tipala and Horesti the mayor seats were won by candidates of the Electoral Bloc "Our Moldova", while the mayor seat in the village Zimbreni went to the Communist Party candidate. Another communist candidate won in Cosauti village of Soroca district.
On 6 July 2003, the runoff for the election of mayors was held in villages Izbiste and Alava of Criuleni and Stefan Voda districts. In Izbiste the mayor mandate was won by a candidate from the "SDP-SLP" Bloc, while in Alava - by an independent candidate.
As a result of the invalidation of the results of the 8 June runoff, repeat elections were held in localities Costesti (Ialoveni), Cuhurestii de Jos (Floresti) and Paharniceni (Orhei). In the repeat elections, the candidates who won in the second round of the election retained their mayor mandates, and thus confirmed that the irregularities invoked by the plaintiffs were not such as to affect significantly the results of elections.
