On 18 April 2003 Vasile Colta, Mayor of Hincesti, and candidate for the same position from the Electoral Bloc "Social Liberal Alliance "Our Moldova" was illegally arrested by the Division for Exceptional Cases of the General Prosecutor's Office. The arrest took place immediately after Mr. Colta's registration as candidate for mayor of Hincesti.

The Electoral Bloc "Our Moldova" qualifies this event as an attempt by the current government to intimidate and eliminate from the electoral competition the electoral contestants of the opposition. The electoral bloc calls upon the public opinion, various international missions to Moldova and organisations of which Moldova is a member and human rights organisations to take a position with regard to this case, which is "a clear violation of human rights." They also call for solidarity of all electoral contestants in stopping the anti-democratic practices of the current communist government of Moldova.
